With thanks to Claire for writing up her account of the first week of Spring League!

HoG vs Brixton

Travelling the lengthy distance of South London, we set up our first Spring League game in Dulwich against HoG with some of our beginners and experienced players.

With a female heavy line up (who run the world…Girls!) headed up by our captain, Elliot, we started 4 on 4 against the lads.

With HoG being faster than us, we had to be smarter with our plays. The game was well fought, with some great plays and unfortunate drops in the end zone.

Even though we didn’t win, we continually kept our heads held high and chased down every disc and not giving the opposition an easy time.

Final Score: 7-2

MoO vs Brixton

Known for awesome spirit, we went into our second game ready. With a pep talk from Jackie showing us that we know how to play together and reminding us ‘WE GOT THIS!’

Again, in this game we were up against a tough side. With obviously more experience behind them, we had to concentrate on keeping the pressure when on D. With a great grab from China in the end zone, we got on the score board… however, that was our only one.

With a quick team talk from Elliot to get us back on track, thinking more about our cuts and continuation, it was easy to see we were working hard to keep the momentum against the stronger team on the day. With some great D’s especially from Jackie and Niall, we showed we can bring it. When MoO put a Zone defence on us, we managed to remain cool and push the disc but the field with rogue discs allowing some turnovers. There was some opportunity for laying out (looking to you Elliot…), more defined cuts (Claire and China) and generally more communication in the game from everyone.

Final Score: 7-1

On the day, we unfortunately got more chocolate fingers in pints than we did points. However, we were able to get our girls playing together in preparation for Mixed Tour 3, and the improvement was visible from all players!
